Household Tips - Things You Really Need to Know!!!

TIP:  Do you know that you can float eggs in cool water to see if they're still good or not?  A fresh egg will sit on the bottom.  An older, but not quite rotten one will float somewhere in the middle, and bad eggs will float all the way to the top of the water.

TIP:  Do you know that the membrane inside the eggshell (that thin skin like piece that separates the wet stuff from the shell itself), can be used to draw poisons, insect venom and toxins from your skin?

I was bitten by a brown recluse spider on my calf one night.  The next day it was itching and swelling, spreading very quickly.  The affected muscle became hard and swollen, and a black area was forming where the bite occurred.

Before we knew what was wrong there, as soon as it became painful, we began putting the egg membrane (wet side down) on the bite, and letting it stay on until it had dried and tightened.  Each time it was dry we'd peel it off and apply a new one.

When I had gone to the emergency room and gotten the anti venom pills, antibiotics etc., it was then time to go to a surgeon to have the dead areas removed.  He told me because we had been using the egg shell membrane to draw the venom outwards, I was saved losing a large section of my leg.  He didn't need to cut on me at all, only scrape the surface.

To get the membrane out, crack an egg in half over a bowl.  Drain and then gently peel the membrane from the shell in large pieces.  The larger the piece the less you've got to fit together.  Apply wet side down on your skin and arrange the pieces to cover the area needed.  Leave alone until dry.

You can also use this as a facial mask.  Check out all the tips on related subjects at:

TIP:   To get urine smells and other odors out of your laundry, you can find a product in hunting stores, and during the hunting season at WalMart.  It's made by Hunters Specialties and is called Scent A Way Laundry Detergent.

Don't buy the kind with the earth scent added, or your clothes will smell as if you've rubbed soil into them.  LOL  They also have products that you can spray onto clothing, which you can use to spray on your floor where pets may have used the bathroom.

For odors in the air, there is nothing better than Lee-Zyme Spray by Lee Medical Supplies.  We first experienced it at the Shriner's Hospital in Greenville, SC.  I believe most hospitals have a type of this spray by various manufacturers.  It binds the molecules of organic things so they can't produce gas molecules.  In other words, for you to smell something, a molecule of the substance has to get to your nose in gas form.  One spray of this stuff takes all organic gas molecules out of the air.

I only have an old phone number for Lee Medical Supplies, in Harahan, LA.  It's 1-800-433-8950.

If you can't find them, ask a nurse on any hospital floor for a tiny bottle of the odor remover they use.  Look on the bottle and get the company name.

Natural Odor Removers:

I have heard that vinegar removes odors.  Take a cup or bowl with a small amount and leave in the affected room for a short while (such as a bathroom), then pour the vinegar down the drain to clean and deodorize it.
